Art Display Project | Misti Dawson

If you’re anything like me, you have stacks of small prints sitting around in boxes and on shelves with no real destination in sight.  Since I don’t scrapbook anymore, I’m never really sure what to do with my loose prints.  All I know is that I really want to share them.  I was thrilled when I got Misti Dawson’s pictures and write-up in my inbox because she has inspired me to find a wall or a cupboard or two for all those prints!   Take a look.

When you open our front the first thing you see is a canvas print of the four kids. I love that it’s the first thing people notice when they walk in the door.

Upstairs there are random prints. I love that no matter what corner I turn I see a photo of my family.  The canvas on the stairs is and will always be my favorite photo, I regret not getting a larger canvas. The print in the hallway of my four kids was the first photo I took that made me realize I wanted to be a lifestyle photographer. Back then I had never heard this term but I knew I wanted to capture my family and others as they were, not posed. The 10×20 storyboard in the bathroom was taken because I knew it was one of the last baths all three of my boys would take together. I am so happy that I can remember them when they all still got along with just a glance at this photo.

The loft upstairs is one of my favorite rooms. It’s where the kids can be kids. One of the four frames doesn’t have glass, yes, a room where kids can be kids. I like to surround them with photos, old and new.

My mom bought me the photo mobile many years ago and I haven’t updated those photos. I like to walk pass and see my kids faces with chubby cheeks and missing teeth. The framed 10×20 family photo was taken by a good friend and the first photo that gets the same question over and over…..that is “Why are your heads cut off?” I have to explain the focus was on the children.

My favorite wall in the house, it’s where we as a family hang out. It’s a place our friends stand and stare and get excited when they find a photo of themselves. These are snapshots of our lives and I feel they are just as important as a family canvas. All these photos bring a smile to my face several times a day.

The kitchen. These photos help me get through the evening. When the kids are whining about homework, when they are crying because they don’t want to eat their veggies, when I am cooking……all these photos remind me to let the little things go.

If I could I would print every photo I’ve ever taken and fill my house with memories. Without these photos so many of these moments would be forgotten.

Thanks, Misti!

  1. im in love with this. misty just has such a fun personality and i knew her home would be filled with images that reflect just that.

    thx for sharing!

  2. Yes, they are just 4×6 prints with black border. JJ has a wall in her room with white border, wish I could have shared that wall too.
They are held up with double sided tape. Don’t go easy with it or they will fall. Cover all the edges.

  7. I love the kitchen display!!! And I think we have the same cabinets, though, I’m sure my cabinets are older and just about falling apart. I think this would work!! How are the photos hung on the cabinets? Just tape? And you just printed the photos with a black border?? Thanks for your inspiration!!
